Welcome
to the Division of Ophthalmology at the new, state-of-the-art John
H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County formerly known as Cook County
Hospital. Our new Eye Clinic, which is located in the new hospital subspecialty
center, opened on July 1, 2003. We are proud to provide the finest eye
care to the 5 million residents of Cook County that includes the city
of Chicago. The history of the Ophthalmology Division dates back to 1914
at the time of opening of the former Cook County Hospital building
whose famous art deco facade has graced many notable films.
The
Mission of the Ophthalmology Division is to provide excellent care
to our patients and provide an exceptional training program for new generations
of skilled ophthalmologists. Unique to a public hospital setting is the
ability to treat patients regardless of their ability to pay for services.
Our diversity of pathology and clinical experience is unmatched in Chicago.
